The very first draft was red and black, which Jordan did not like, because those colours belonged to the team his college squad competed against. Funnily enough, that colour combination recently came back on the Jordan Retro 1! The first tri-colour Jordan shoes mixed black, red and white, and the NBA was not impressed - back then players were not allowed to wear colourful footwear. Michael Jordan had to pay 5,000 dollars for every game he played in his new shoes. That fine turned out to be the best advertising Nike Jordan could have asked for. The crowds at the games (and not only them) started paying attention to these controversial-looking sneakers, which also happened to offer great heel cushioning, toe protection and ankle stability. Their specs soon got even better - in 1986 the upgraded Air Jordan 2 arrived.
