Air Jordan sneakers - a streetwear icon

Air Jordan is the iconic sneaker line created together with basketball legend Michael Jordan and the Nike brand. These shoes are a symbol of style, athletic excellence and sneakerhead culture all over the world. Launched back in 1985, Air Jordan changed the footwear industry for good. What sets Air Jordan apart is not only the outstanding build quality, but also the innovative technologies that deliver comfort and serious performance on the court.

How the prestigious Nike Jordan sneakers began

Nike Jordan footwear is an undisputed legend - widely considered the most famous basketball shoes ever made. Their story goes back to the mid-1980s and, although it is tied to Nike, it also has a curious link to another sportswear giant. Michael Jordan originally wanted his shoes to be made by adidas. The people at adidas decided the player had no potential to become an international sports star and turned him down. The deal went to Nike instead, and the first Nike Air Jordan model was designed by the brand's Creative Director, Peter Moore - who, interestingly enough, had previously created the adidas logo everyone knows.Moore sketched the Jordan logo on a plane. The very first draft was red and black, which Jordan did not like, because those colours belonged to the team his college squad competed against. Funnily enough, that colour combination recently came back on the Jordan Retro 1! The first tri-colour Jordan shoes mixed black, red and white, and the NBA was not impressed - back then players were not allowed to wear colourful footwear. Michael Jordan had to pay 5,000 dollars for every game he played in his new shoes. That fine turned out to be the best advertising Nike Jordan could have asked for. The crowds at the games (and not only them) started paying attention to these controversial-looking sneakers, which also happened to offer great heel cushioning, toe protection and ankle stability. Their specs soon got even better - in 1986 the upgraded Air Jordan 2 arrived.

Nike Jordan - only for basketball players?

Although Nike Air Jordan shoes were built for the court, they quickly won over fans of the sport and the streetwear scene alike. Footwear with such an emotive design was genuinely comfortable, which made it perfect for everyday wear. Worth knowing: one of the comfiest Jordan chapters is the Air Jordan 4 from 1989, a favourite of countless artists. Keep in mind that over 30 Jordan models have been released, and most of them work brilliantly as lifestyle shoes. The most demanding sneakerheads hunt for them, and athleisure fans love wearing them too. Nobody will argue that Nike Jordan shoes are the best basketball shoes out there, but they also finish off a streetwear outfit perfectly.

Nike Jordan models

The Air Jordan 2 mentioned above dropped the Nike logo that used to sit on the sides of the upper and added better midfoot support. The real breakthrough, though, came slightly later. The Air Jordan 3 was the first design with the signature Jumpman, now the symbol of the brand. It also featured a visible Air unit. The fourth chapter improved airflow and came in four colourways. If you want to buy Nike Jordan shoes, remember you can choose High models, which lock the ankle in place, though in many situations a Low pair makes more sense.
