Two languages, two layers, one silhouette

The Nike LD Waffle sacai CLOT “Cool Grey” takes the LD Waffle running silhouette and doubles almost everything: the tongues, laces, and upper panels overlap, making the shoe look like two models merged into one from the side. The Waffle sole is layered and significantly raised, adding a few centimeters and altering the proportions of the leg. The translucent panels nod to the “Kiss of Death” from CLOT, and the materials themselves are a combination of mesh, leather, and suede. The palette sticks to muted shades of Cool Grey, Obsidian, and Neutral Grey, so the construction makes more noise here than the color.

How the layered construction fits

The double tongue and double lacing increase volume at the instep, which is why the shoe fits tighter on top than a standard running model; the contoured insole balances this out from underneath. Sizing runs from 36 to 46, including half sizes 36.5, 37.5, 38.5, 42.5, 44.5, and 45.5, but excluding 40.5, so if you have a high instep, it is worth double-checking your measurement. What to wear them with

With a sole like this, pants that end above the upper work best: rolled-up jeans, straight technical pants, or sometimes shorts. The grey palette allows for a monochromatic outfit, where the shoe is the only element with an elaborate texture.
