The Air Max 97 has a rather narrow, snug upper and a low entry, which is why a larger size is more comfortable if you have a wide foot or a high instep. Measure your foot length in centimeters and compare it to the size chart instead of converting from another brand. It is also worth remembering that mesh does not stretch like leather, so a shoe that feels tight at the start is unlikely to break in.
