Nike Air Max 1/97 Sean Wotherspoon

Two models stitched into one

The Nike Air Max 1/97 Sean Wotherspoon is a literal combination: an Air Max 97 upper set on an Air Max 1 sole. Instead of mesh and synthetics, it features layered, multicolored corduroy that naturally wears down over time, making every pair look unique after a season of wear. The Swoosh is embroidered with contrasting thread, the laces are colorful, and the insoles feature "VA to LA," referencing the designer's own journey. The Air unit remains visible, and the tongue patches are interchangeable. This model was created as part of the Nike Vote Forward campaign.

How to choose the right size

Available sizes range from 40 to 46, with half sizes 40.5, 42.5, 44.5, and 45.5. Corduroy is softer than leather and molds to the foot faster, but it does not stretch in width—if you have a wider foot, you will be more comfortable going half a size up in this model. Before deciding, compare the insole length from our size chart with a pair you wear every day.

What to wear them with and how to care for them

So many colors on one shoe mean one thing: the rest of the outfit should be low-key. Solid-colored pants, one shade from the upper echoed in a sweatshirt or cap, and that’s it—the layered corduroy does all the visual work. Clean them dry with a soft brush along the corduroy ridges; heavy soaking will only flatten the pile. You can find other pairs from this family in the Nike Air Max 97 collection, and other top-tier collector models in Hype Grail.
