The 550 Au Lait sticks to a single palette: the upper is cream beige, in a café au lait shade, with slightly darker brown accents on the details. It features the same basketball construction as the other 550s – a stitched "N" on the side, perforations in the forefoot, a textile interior, and a flat rubber sole – but lacks the contrast that usually breaks this silhouette into separate panels. The result is that the shoe reads almost as a uniform block and sits half a tone lower than the classic white-gray editions from the New Balance 550 collection. The leather is smooth and slightly satin, and while the light color requires some attention around the toe box, it develops a patina over time that many people appreciate in this model.

Sizes: limited run

We have this colorway in a narrow range, from 36 to 40.5, including half sizes, so if your size falls within this grid, there is no need to wait. The leather adapts to your foot during the first few days, so don't buy a size up – it's better to measure your foot in centimeters and check the result against the size chart than to guess based on another pair. How to style them

Beige is versatile because it fades into the background and lets the rest of your outfit do the work: light jeans, browns, khaki, a cream hoodie, or black pants for contrast. Au Lait looks more understated than the highly colorful versions, so it can even be worn with a shirt and a wool coat, which usually doesn't work as well with sportier colorways.
