Nike Air Max 95 is the model that broke every running-shoe design rule of its time. Sergio Lozano built it not around sport, but around human anatomy: the layered panels on the upper stand for muscle fibres, the lacing for the spine and the mesh for the ribs.
It was also the first Nike with a visible Air unit in the forefoot - until then, cushioning only showed at the heel. The signature gradient, dark at the bottom and light at the top, came from a practical reason: the lower part of a shoe gets dirty fastest. The upper combines nubuck, suede and mesh, and the chunky midsole gives it a silhouette you cannot mistake for anything else.
How Air Max 95 fits
Air Max 95 runs true to Nike sizing - with an average foot, stay with your usual EU size. The upper is closed and stiffer than on mesh models, so with a high instep consider going half a size up. The tongue doesn't stretch much, held in place by the layered construction.
How to wear it
The chunky sole and multi-layer upper like a simple backdrop - straight-cut trousers in one colour and a toned-down top. The classic grey gradients (Neon, Solar Red) go with almost anything; louder colourways are better left as the only accent.
